Oglethorpe Boulevard Closed at St. Augustine Boulevard for 6-8 Weeks
ST. AUGUSTINE – The Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation Project team plans to close the end of Oglethorpe Boulevard at its intersection with St. Augustine Boulevard for approximately six to eight weeks beginning the week of April 28, 2008. The intersection of Oglethorpe Boulevard and St. Augustine Boulevard is located north of Anastasia Boulevard just east of the temporary Bridge of Lions.

Dolphin Drive Intersection Closed for 3 Days
ST. AUGUSTINE – The Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation Project team plans to close the end of Dolphin Drive at the intersection with Anastasia Boulevard for approximately three days, from Tuesday, April 15, 2008 through Thursday, April 17, 2008. The intersection of Dolphin Drive and Anastasia Boulevard is located in the South Davis Shores neighborhood at the east end of the temporary Bridge of Lions. Changes in the weather or delivery of construction materials may delay the beginning or the duration of this activity.

Bridge of Lions Temporary Bridge closed for 12 hours February 13th
ST. AUGUSTINE – The Bridge of Lions temporary bridge will be completely closed to all motorist traffic for 12 hours beginning at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, February 13, 2008 and ending at 6:00 a.m. Thursday morning, February 14, 2008. ST. AUGUSTINE – The Bridge of Lions temporary bridge could not be closed for concrete placement as scheduled Sunday night, December 16th, due to the extreme cold weather. Traffic Lanes Closed Overnight at Bridge of Lions November 14th
ST. AUGUSTINE – Both lanes on the temporary bridge adjacent to the Bridge of Lions will be closed to motorist traffic for two hours early Wednesday morning, November 14, 2007 from 1:00 a.m. until 3:00 a.m. This closure will not affect pedestrian traffic on the sidewalk. REVISED Channel Closures at the Bridge of Lions
ST. AUGUSTINE – Channel closures beneath the Bridge of Lions during the remainder of February 2007 have been reduced. The new schedule is as follows:
The channel will be closed to marine traffic on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 27-28, 2007, from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. each day, except for an opening which will be provided at 12:30 p.m. upon request to the bridge tender on marine radio channel 9.
The closures are necessary to accommodate construction of new supporting columns for the Bridge of Lions piers adjacent to the channel. read more
Channel Closures February 2007 at the Bridge of Lions
ST. AUGUSTINE – The channel beneath the Bridge of Lions will be closed to marine traffic 20 hours a day - from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. on the following dates: February 12-14; February 19-22; and February 26-28, 2007.
Openings will be provided during a two-hour break in the morning, 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m., and during a two-hour break in the evening, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Requests must be made to the bridge tender on Marine Radio Channel 9.

Channel Closures November and December 2006 at the Bridge of Lions
ST. AUGUSTINE – The channel beneath the Bridge of Lions will be closed at night to marine traffic from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. on the following dates: November 21 (one night only); November 27- December 1 (Monday-Friday); December 4-8 (Monday-Friday), and December 11-13 (Monday-Wednesday), 2006.
During each nightly closure, an opening may be provided at 2:00 a.m. upon request. Requests must be made to the bridge tender on Marine Radio Channel 9.

Bridge of Lions and Temporary Bridge Closed
ST. AUGUSTINE – On Wednesday night, May 17, 2006, the Bridge of Lions and the temporary bridge will be completely closed from 7:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Thursday morning, May 18, 2006. The closure will accommodate shifting traffic from the Bridge of Lions to the adjacent temporary bridge. In addition to the bridge closures, all lanes in both directions on Anastasia Boulevard from Gerado street to the west end of the Bridge of Lions will also be closed to accommodate the traffic shift.
A final functional checkout of the numerous mechanical and electrical components of the temporary bridge is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16, 2006. The closures and the shift of traffic to the temporary bridge are dependent upon the functional checkout, and any adjustments found to be necessary following the checkout would result in a change to the scheduled traffic shift. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to check the digital message signs located on both ends of the Bridge of Lions for any schedule updates

Road Closures at the Bridge of Lions
St. Augustine – Beginning Wednesday night, March 29, 2006, on the east end of the Bridge of Lions, two intersections at the North Davis Shores neighborhood and Anastasia Boulevard will be closed for approximately two months. The closures will affect the intersection at St. Augustine Boulevard and Anastasia Boulevard and the intersection at Gerado Street and St. Augustine Boulevard. Traffic to the neighborhood and to the adjacent Edgewater Hotel will be detoured through the neighborhood using Zorayda Street, Oglethorpe Boulevard and Arpieka Avenue.
The road closures will accommodate drainage and sidewalk work as part of the Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation Project and will accommodate build up of the roadway to the temporary bridge.

Fourth of July Safety Notice
ST. AUGUSTINE - During Fourth of July celebrations in St. Augustine, the public is not permitted to access construction sites associated with the Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation project. These areas include the north and south parks on the west end of the bridge, which are fenced, and any work platform adjacent to land or any barge in the water near the bridge.
This restriction of access is in the interest of public safety. The work areas contain many items necessary for construction which may pose a safety hazard to members of the public.
Construction sites are not open to the public, and trespassing on a construction site is a felony.

Area Road Closure East of the Bridge of Lions
ST. AUGUSTINE - A portion of St. Augustine Boulevard approximately 40 feet in length and 25 feet in width will be closed beginning Wednesday, June 29, 2005. The area to be closed is located at the intersection of St. Augustine Road and Anastasia Boulevard.
The closure will affect access for motorists traveling from St. Augustine Road and merging onto the Bridge of Lions. Instead of merging onto the bridge, motorists will now have to go straight on St. Augustine Road to the stop sign, and then turn right onto Anastasia Boulevard toward the Bridge of Lions.
Access to the Edgewater Inn will remain open.

Temporary Lane Closure East of the Bridge of Lions
ST. AUGUSTINE – One lane on St. Augustine Boulevard just north of where it connects to Anastasia Boulevard will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2005 to accommodate removal of two power poles by Florida Power & Light. Motorists are requested to use caution when traveling through the area.
St. Augustine Boulevard is located in the North Davis Shores neighborhood immediately east of the Bridge of Lions.

Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation – Road and Sidewalk Closures, Reduced Speed Limit
ST. AUGUSTINE – Closure of the north sidewalk along the Bridge of Lions and closure of the west end of Flagler Boulevard are anticipated to occur by the end of this month. Also, 30 mph speed limit signs in the project area and on the Bridge of Lions have been replaced by 25 mph signs for the duration of the project.
Project officials decided to close the sidewalk along the north edge of the Bridge of Lions to eliminate potential safety hazards to pedestrians and bicyclists during pile driving activities to construct the temporary bridge. The south sidewalk will remain open.

Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation Begins, Flagler Boulevard Closed on West End
ST. AUGUSTINE – Rehabilitation on the historic Bridge of Lions will commence February 14, 2005 with the mobilization of construction equipment and the closure of the west end of Flagler Boulevard, which will become a cul-de-sac in the project’s final roadway configuration.
Flagler Boulevard is located in the Davis Shores neighborhood on the east end of the Bridge of Lions, just north of Anastasia Boulevard. Through the years, Flagler Boulevard has become plagued by motorists using the neighborhood street to get ahead of traffic heading west toward the Bridge of Lions. Closing Flagler permanently will eliminate cut-through traffic.

Informational Meetings Scheduled For Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation Project
ST. AUGUSTINE – Two informational meetings to discuss the Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation Project will be held by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in the Alcazar Room, on the first floor of the Lightner Building at 75 King Street in St. Augustine, Florida. The meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, January 18, 2005 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a brief presentation scheduled for 6:00 p.m.; and again on Wednesday, January 19, 2005, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a brief presentation scheduled for 12 noon.
Each meeting is open to the public and will provide identical information. Project representatives will be available to answer questions at both meetings. Project information will include display boards with an overview of the project and brochures explaining the project and providing contact information for project representatives.

Tidewater Skanska, Inc. to rehabilitate historic St. Augustine Bridge of Lions
ST. AUGUSTINE – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announced today that a contract has been awarded for $76 million to rehabilitate the historic Bridge of Lions on State Road A1A in St. Augustine.
Tidewater Skanska, based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, boasts extensive experience constructing bridges and marine facilities across the country.
"The St. Augustine Bridge of Lions is a sensitive historic site, and we are pleased to have such an experienced contractor working on this project," said Jeff Williams, P.E., project manager with FDOT District Two.
"We look forward to working with FDOT and the community as we begin construction on the Bridge of Lions. This unique project allows us the opportunity to improve the functionality and safety of the structure, while maintaining the historic value of this landmark," said Ed McLaughlin, President of Tidewater Skanska, Inc.
