ST. AUGUSTINE –Two informational meetings to discuss the Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation Project will be held by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in the Alcazar Room, on the first floor of the Lightner Building at 75 King Street in St. Augustine, Florida. The meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, January 18, 2005 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a brief presentation scheduled for 6:00 p.m.; and again on Wednesday, January 19, 2005, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a brief presentation scheduled for 12 noon.
Each meeting is open to the public and will provide identical information. Project representatives will be available to answer questions at both meetings. Project information will include display boards with an overview of the project and brochures explaining the project and providing contact information for project representatives.
Construction work is scheduled to begin on February 14, following the Super Bowl celebration in Jacksonville, 40 miles north of St. Augustine.
The rehabilitation of the Bridge of Lions is expected to take approximately five years, providing for special requirements during construction to maintain the historic value of the structure upon completion. Originally opened to traffic in 1927, the Bridge of Lions spans the Matanzas River, connecting the historic heart of St. Augustine to Anastasia Island.
For more information regarding the bridge rehabilitation, please contact Laurie Sanderson in the public information office at (904) 825-3647 or at info@FDOTBridgeofLions.com.
