ST. AUGUSTINE –A portion of St. Augustine Boulevard approximately 40 feet in length and 25 feet in width will be closed beginning Wednesday, June 29, 2005. The area to be closed is located at the intersection of St. Augustine Road and Anastasia Boulevard.
The closure will affect access for motorists traveling from St. Augustine Road and merging onto the Bridge of Lions. Instead of merging onto the bridge, motorists will now have to go straight on St. Augustine Road to the stop sign, and then turn right onto Anastasia Boulevard toward the Bridge of Lions.
Access to the Edgewater Inn will remain open.
This closure will remain in place until the new intersection configuration is constructed in that area during the Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation project. St. Augustine Boulevard is located in the North Davis Shores neighborhood immediately east of the Bridge of Lions.
The rehabilitation of the Bridge of Lions, funded by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), began in February 2005 and is expected to last approximately five years, excluding potential weather delays. Special provisions during construction will help maintain the historic value of the structure upon completion. The Bridge of Lions, originally opened to traffic in 1927, spans the Matanzas River to connect historic St. Augustine and Anastasia Island.
For more information regarding the bridge rehabilitation, please contact Laurie Sanderson in the public information office at (904) 825-3647 or at info@FDOTBridgeofLions.com.
