ST. AUGUSTINE – The Bridge of Lions temporary bridge will be completely closed to all motorist traffic for 12 hours beginning at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, February 13, 2008 and ending at 6:00 a.m. Thursday morning, February 14, 2008. The temporary closure will also include restricting a short portion of Anastasia Boulevard east of the Bridge to Zorayda Avenue.
This scheduled closure is weather permitting. Marine traffic will not be affected.
The closure is necessary to accommodate a traffic reconfiguration on the east end of the Bridge of Lions and a large placement of concrete at one of the Bridge of Lions’ piers. Motorists are advised to use the SR 312 bridge as an alternate route.
Following completion of the closure, traffic on the east end of the Bridge of Lions will follow a new traffic pattern shifting all lanes to the north side of Anastasia Boulevard from Zorayda Avenue to the Bridge, leaving the south side available for drainage and road reconstruction. This new traffic pattern will be in place until approximately Fall 2008.
The Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation project, funded by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), began in February 2005 and is expected to last approximately five years, excluding potential weather delays.
